Worker struck and killed by dump truck inside Massachusetts work zone

A construction worker was struck and killed along a Massachusetts highway early Wednesday.

According to a report from MassLive.com, the unidentified worker was hit by a dump truck inside work zone on the southbound side of Interstate 91 in Holyoke.

The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the incident but have not yet given details on what caused the accident. It’s unclear if the worker was killed by a truck working on the site or if the truck drifted into the work zone.

The incident is the latest in a string of work zone deaths in the last four weeks. Workers on highway jobsites in Oklahoma, Ohio, Oregon, Wisconsin, Colorado and Florida.

A recent survey by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) found that 46 percent of road contractors have had a vehicle crash in one of their work zones, with 30 percent indicating at least five such incidences in a year’s time.
