62-year-old worker killed near Throgs Neck Bridge

Bridge 12A 62-year-old construction worker was killed in an accident near Throgs Neck Bridge in the Bronx, New York.

The accident happened early in the morning when construction crews were unloading a cabinet full of electrical equipment. The equipment accidentally fell off of the pallet, killing the worker.

“We had a contractor who was working on a project here at the Throgs Neck Bridge who was killed by a piece of equipment,” said MTA Spokesperson Adam Lisberg. “It was a couple of people who were helping move this piece of equipment, and he was unfortunately killed as the piece of equipment fell.”

Investigators were uncertain if the accident was due to equipment failure or not. No other injuries were reported.

Earlier in the year two workers were killed in an Alabama bridge accident when their lift fell around 90 feet. 2014 has been a dangerous year for construction workers which has prompted OSHA to expect an increase in worksite deaths.
