Work zone safety award applications due Nov. 1

Applications for the Roadway Work Zone Safety Awareness Awards, a program that honors outstanding efforts to reduce construction accidents in highway and road work zones, are due Nov. 1.

Sponsored by the American Road and Transportation Builders Association’s Transportation Development Foundation and the National Safety Council, the awards will be presented at the 2003 Midwest Work Zone Safety Conference.

Entries are open to projects, products, news accounts and campaigns that have affected work zone safety. Awards are divided into four categories, which include government outreach programs, media coverage, private outreach campaigns and innovations in technology. Within each category, awards are divided into subcategories. Entries can be submitted for multiple categories or subcategories as long as the project or product fits the category’s description. There is no limit to the number of entries an organization may submit.

Submissions will be voted on by a judging panel and through an online-voting process. Online voting will be conducted Oct. 24-Nov. 7. Entries are judged on their originality or creativity, effectiveness, level of promotional effort and value to the industry and public.

Winning entrants will be notified on or before Nov. 7. For more information or to get an application online, go to www.artba.org or call ARTBA’s Rhonda Haskins at 202-289-4435.
