Wisconsin DOT makes $108 million in transportation aid payments to local governments

bigstock-Wisconsin-Welcome-Sign-42904156The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has made $108.18 million in payments to 1,924 local “units” of governments for General Transportation Aids, Connecting Highway Aids and Expressway Policing Aids.

General Transportation Aids programs received the bulk of the payments at $104.91 million. These funds are designed to help “defray the costs of constructing, maintaining and operating roads and streets under local jurisdication.”

These payments broke down in the following for the five regions of the state:

  • North Central: $16,522,636
  • Northeast: $17,414,133
  • Northwest: $20,256,695
  • Southeast: $26,205,370
  • Southwest: $24,506,335

Connecting Highway Aids programs reached $3.02 million, with the funds used to reimburse municipalities for traffic control and maintenance of state highways within their area. Milwaukee County was the sole recipient of $255,975 for Expressway Policing Aids.

This calendar year local governments will be distributed roughly $419 million from the state’s transportation fund for building and maintaining local bridges and roads.
