The Wisconsin Department of Transportation just launched a new smart phone application to let drivers know about the road conditions across the state.

The app, called 511 Wisconsin, is free and is available now on both Apple and Android devices, according to WKOW in Madison.

The app updates Wisconsin commuters on crashes, traffic delays, road closures, detours, construction zones and road conditions affected by weather. The app also allows users to program their most frequently traveled roads.Screen Shot 2015-06-29 at 1.12.57 PM

According to the app’s description in iTunes and on Google Play, 511 Wisconsin is “the official mobile traveler information app of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

“511 Wisconsin provides current traffic and winter road conditions, as well as real time closure information, custom traffic alerts, message boards, freeway camera images and travel times for major roadways in the state of Wisconsin,” the description continues.

The new app also features about 400 traffic camera live-feeds to view what’s going happening on major roads.

511 Wisconsin is available on iTunes and Google Play, and the Wisconsin DOT added that the app shouldn’t be used while driving.
