Virginia DOT encourages litter pick up for Earth Day

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) encouraged Adopt-A-Highway groups and other volunteers to do a little “spring cleaning” via roadside litter pick up today for Earth Day (April 22).

VDOT cautions motorists to use additional caution on Earth Day and be on the lookout for signs along highways that litter pick-up is occurring.

The agency’s Adopt-A-Highway program started in 1988, and has grown to become one of the largest in the country. VDOT says it provides equipment and safety training to program participants in addition to a sign along a chosen portion of highway.
