Roughly $5.6 million was awarded to Allegheny Construction of Roanoke, Virginia, to replace two narrow bridges that carry Route 220 over tributaries of the James River in northern Botetourt County.
The contract also calls for adding wider culverts and reconstruction of 0.8 miles of roadway near the culverts. The project is expected to be completed by June 2018.
Approximately $8.9 million has been awarded to M & J Painting to clean and paint three center spans on the Robert O. Norris Bridge. The bridge carries Route 3 over the Rappahannock River in Middlesex County. The agency says the work will protect the bridge’s structural steel elements and prevent deterioration and corrosion. The project is expected to be completed by June 2018.
So far this year the VCTB has awarded $506.2 million in major contracts, with January seeing the highest amount at $194 million.
