Excavator plunges from trailer after operator goes with the ‘ol back up maneuver

Volvo Excavator Falls from Trailer

Before we even get into this latest video from the “how not to load heavy equipment” archives, I will say that at least they had a trailer with a ramp. That’s more than we can say for most of the folks seen in videos of this sort.

Problem is, they still had the wrong trailer with a ramp. The other problem is that they were determined to make whatever this plan was work.

Not only is this trailer’s weight rating likely not stout enough for this excavator, but the tracks clearly don’t even fit on the platform. After a minute or so of denying the obvious, the operator rotates the upperstructure of the excavator back toward the rear of the trailer. “Phew,” you think. “They’ve thought better of all this.”

Nope!

Within a few seconds, he’s dropped the bucket to the ground in order to provide leverage (disturbingly, this likely wasn’t Plan B and was probably the plan all along) as he drives the machine backwards, further onto the ramp. Meanwhile, the excavator’s tracks are no less than halfway off the side of the trailer closest to the camera. Less than 10 seconds later the whole thing falls apart and the excavator tumbles to the ground.

Trailers: Having the right one can be just as valuable as they machine you’re carrying.
