U.S. Radar offers self-contained sub-surface penetrating radar system

SeekerFeaturing a technologically-advanced, yet simple touch screen operating system and a variety of antenna frequency options, The Seeker SPR from U.S. Radar is an easy-to-operate, sub-surface penetrating radar system that is able to infiltrate numerous surfaces such as soil, clay, concrete and brick. The Seeker integrates a complete imaging system into one portable, user-friendly unit, making it a convenient and practical solution for a variety of industries, including general and underground construction, road and bridge building, structural and civil engineering, environmental, law enforcement and underground utility.

By transmitting energy pulses through a variety of mediums, the system is able to display an image of the sub-surface on the operator interface. Users have the ability to set a variety of parameters prior to each unique survey for maximized efficiency. Parameters including soil settings, algorithms, and color palette may be set quickly and easily via the touch screen. Furthermore, the system can be set to focus on a particular depth range, useful if the approximate depth of an object is known.

To accommodate a broad range of detection needs, five antenna frequency options are available and are easily interchangeable for those with multiple antenna needs. The highest resolution option, 2,000 MHz, can detect in depths up to 1 ½ feet, and see the smallest objects, such as fine wire and cracks in concrete. At a lower resolution, the 1,000 MHz detects slightly larger objects including rebar and wire mesh in depths up to 3 ½ feet. The most popular and versatile unit, the 500 MHz, offers a detection depth up to 14 feet, and is ideal for recognizing soil disturbances, and finding large and small pipes and cables. The 250 MHz and 100 MHz options can see up to 30 feet and 100 feet, respectively, and are best for detecting sizeable objects such as bedrock and large pipes. All maximum depths are based on ideal material conditions and may increase or decrease as conditions change.

The system features an internal memory with data storage capacity of more than 50,000 lineal feet. For convenience, data may be viewed immediately on the large, bright screen. Also included are two USB ports and a serial port for data transfer or to allow the use of external GPS and other data collectors. The Seeker is a Windows-based operating system and includes basic acquisition software. Additional software is available for advanced users and applications requiring greater filtering and data processing capabilities.

The Seeker is a non-destructive method of testing. It is both safe and environmentally friendly, as its frequency waves inflict no damage on the sub-surface or surroundings. Featuring battery-powered operation, the unit is virtually silent and creates minimal disturbance. The battery offers up to 3 ½ hours of continuous run time and the battery packs are designed for maximum longevity.

For added convenience, the controller, antenna, battery pack and cables are mounted on a trackercart, integrating the entire system into one portable package. The trackercart sits on two sturdy wheels and is scientifically balanced for optimal stability. This minimizes pushing effort and reduces operator fatigue. For enhanced durability, all cables and connections are built using robust military-specification and waterproof connectors. An optional rough terrain attachment further increases reliability in the field and includes two additional tires, allowing the unit to easily traverse a variety of surface conditions.
