Thomas named deputy secretary of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

Kentucky welcome signGov. Matt Bevin has tapped Greg Thomas to be the new Deputy Secretary of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The state’s transportation department announced at the beginning of February that Thomas, who spent most of his years in the private sector, would step into the role. Thomas most recently worked for LG&E and KU Energy LLC in Louisville for more than 25 years.

“I am thrilled to have Greg Thomas joining the Transportation Cabinet as Deputy Secretary,” Bevin said. “His extensive private sector experience in providing statewide services and managing large budgets will be extremely beneficial for the Transportation Cabinet.”

Thomas was the VP of Electric Distribution during his time with LG&E and KU Energy. In his position, he was responsible for all electric distribution operations statewide and oversaw more than 700 employees and 1,000 contractors. The University of Tennessee graduate also handled the strategic direction and managed a $250 million annual budget.

“After many years in the private sector, I look forward to serving the citizens of the Commonwealth and working with the talented people in the Transportation Cabinet,” Thomas said.
