After unveiling the alternative fuel package in May, the first 2016 F-150s with the gaseous-fuel prep option have rolled off Ford’s assembly line in Kansas City. The package makes the F-150 capable of running on compressed natural gas (CNG) or propane. Ford is currently the only automaker offering a CNG/propane half-ton pickup truck. The initial […]

REVIEW: 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD bi-fuel a case study in CNG vs. gas (PHOTOS)
[imagebrowser id=74] A whoosh, like connecting an air hose to a compressor, is the only thing that lets me know I’m in business filling the bed-mounted fuel tank in the 2015 Chevy Silverado bi-fuel CNG 4×4 I’m driving. Senate bill would give natural gas trucks a weight exemption
The Senate this week introduced its version of a bill to cut natural gas-powered trucks a break, as it would give them an exemption to federal truck weight standards as a means to mitigate the weight of nat gas tanks and to prevent natural gas adopters from being at a competitive disadvantage. Fix your CNG costs ahead of time, save big bucks filling up your trucks down the road
Fuel prices fluctuate dramatically and that price volatility is a source of concern to construction companies with even small fleets. One way to eliminate that variable line item is to fix the price of fuel. That’s where fleets running vehicles on compressed natural gas (CNG) have a huge advantage. CNG’s price per gasoline-gallon-equivalent (GGE) is […]

How much does a CNG pickup fuel tank really hold? Specs don’t tell the whole story

After discussions with both CNG tank suppliers and CNG automotive pickup engine builders, I found out the stated size on a CNG tank isn’t the capacity that’s […]

First Drive: 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD bi-fuel CNG disappoints compared to propane Ford F-250
[imagebrowser id=74] There’s currently a big push to get us to embrace clean energy by opting for propane- and CNG-powered pickups over diesel and gas. I’m all for helping the environment and am not afraid to give alternative fuels a look. So I’ve been eager to test both propane and CNG. I was impressed by […]

Chrysler’s new CNG tank mimics human lungs to decrease size, increase capacity
Chrysler says that its patent-pending compressed natural gas fuel tank solves two of the major drawbacks to the fuel by drawing inspiration form the human lungs. While a lot of truck owners are interested in CNG because it can be had for pretty cheap ($1 per-gallon-equivalent to gasoline), the downsides are related: because it’s not […]
