S. Carolina DOT announces 3 Transportation Alternatives Program projects

screen-shot-2016-12-04-at-1-17-45-pmThe South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking public comment on three proposed projects to be included in the Fiscal Year 2016 Transportation Alternatives Program.

This program is federally funded and administrated by SCDOT to provide local governments with non-traditional transportation projects, including those for pedestrians, cyclists and streetscaping. It was formerly known as the Transportation Enhancement Program.

The three projects include:

Colleton County â€“ Gadsden Loop Neighborhood Pedestrian Improvements

Federal Funds Requested:  $400,000

Installation of ADA compliant sidewalks, detectable warnings, and pedestrian ramps connecting the Black Street Elementary School and the Early Childhood Center. These improvements would run along Smith Street, Robertson Boulevard, Gadsden Loop and Peurifoy Road in Walterboro.

Orangeburg County â€“ Mast Arm Traffic Signal Improvements

Federal Funds Requested:  $56,000

Installation of mast arm traffic signals at the interchange of Interstate 26 and US 601 (Exit 145) Orangeburg County.

Town of Bethune – Bethune Downtown Pedestrian Improvements

Federal Funds Requested:  $400,000

Installation of ADA compliant sidewalks and crosswalk signalization at the intersection of US 1 (King Street) and SC 341 (Main Street) in Bethune.
