New York City is preparing for the up to one foot of snow expected to fall on the Big Apple this weekend, but backup is on the way to help out.

According to WKTV, the New York State Department of Transportation is sending workers from out of town into the city to help remove snow from the storm that could dump between 8 and 10 inches on the city.

Region 2 of the NYSDOT is sending a total of 20 plows, 42 operators and four supervisors to New York City, Long Island and Poughkeepsie in order to help out. Region 2 is one of the northernmost regions for the NYSDOT, with Utica marking the biggest city in the region. Being much smaller regions closer to the city, they can afford to miss some personnel to help.

“There’s a lot more lane miles down there and they’re really not used to the snow like we are so like I said, they’re just using additional support to help with the additional snow,” NYSDOT’s Jimmy Piccola said.
