Ram Commercial has added left side PTO capability to 4×4 versions of its 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab trucks, which will help offer a more efficient accessory system for challenging or remote work sites. Ram made the announcement during the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis.

“We previously had left and right side available on a 4×2 configuration, that was industry exclusive. We had 4×4 right side. All of our PTO configurations have best in class 60 hp PTO power,” says Dave Sowers, head of Ram Commercial vehicle marketing. “Today we add the left side 4×4, which is very important for the work customer because 4×4 traction lets them get into many otherwise difficult work sites and remote locations. “

Sowers says this new configuration will allow a shaft-driven accessory system that can drive multiple devices such as a generator and a compressor, eliminating the need for the gas-power versions of these tools.

“The gas powered generator and compressor can be left at home, and now you take one 4×4 chassis cab to the remote work site and you can get all your work done in one place,” he adds. “It seems like a small thing to add—a left side version on a 4×4—but it enables great capability and efficiency for the work customer.”

Sowers also announced that the company’s Body Builder’s Guide is in the process of being converted entirely to a fully web-bases system to allow for more frequent updates and access across multiple platforms, a move he says will make the guide “portable into the shop.”
