Cat intros 992K loader, 854K wheel dozer with improved design, hydraulics, 21% fuel boost

Caterpillar has launched the new 992K wheel loader alongside its sister machine the 854K wheel dozer, improving both machines with design, efficiency, safety, and uptime enhancements.

Powered by an 801-horsepower Cat C32 ACERT engine, the new 992K delivers three-pass loading of the Cat 775 off-highway truck and four-pass loading of the Cat 777. To improve cost efficiency, the heavy equipment maker has implemented the Cat Production Measurement system which allows operators to minimize truck under-loading and overloading.

The new 992K also boasts updated hydraulics featuring improved pump efficiency along with other performance enhancements like improved fluid filtration and coolant loss monitoring.

ASV expands Posi-Track lineup with new RT-75 large-frame CTL

A year and a half after relaunching its three-model Posi-Track lineup of compact track loaders, ASV is introducing a fourth in the RT-75, a large-frame, radial-lift model.

Operating capacity on the RT-75 is 2,650 pounds with a tipping load of 7,571 pounds. Lift height is 126 inches.

Offering what the company says is best-in-class ground clearance, the RT-75’s Post-Track dual-level suspension is able to adapt to different terrain at faster speeds thanks to suspended wheels and axles. ASV says the machine performs better on steep slopes than competitors thanks to triple-guide lugs and multiple wheel contact points.

Hyundai to offer Trimble-ready wheel loaders and excavators

Hyundai used the recent Trimble Dimensions conference in Las Vegas as an opportunity to announce a Trimble-ready option for some of its machines.

Selecting this option, which the company says is “coming soon,”  will outfit Hyundai wheel loaders and excavators with factory-installed Trimble machine control and positioning systems.

At the Dimensions conference Hyundai displayed four machines equipped with Trimble technology.

An HL955 wheel loader and an HX300L excavator were equipped with Trimble’s dual GNSS GCS900 system which combines 3D machine positioning with bucket positioning. The HX300L was also equipped with the X2350 Loadrite onboard weighing system.

Komatsu intros PC138USLC-11 excavator with performance, fuel improvements

Komatsu has launched an update to its PC138USLC excavator, a tight tail swing radius model aimed at highway, utility and other jobs in confined spaces.

The PC138USLC-11 is powered by a Tier 4 Final Komatsu SAA4D95LE-7 engine that provides a 4-percent decrease in fuel consumption. The engine employs selective catalytic reduction technology (SCR) and a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and requires no diesel particulate filter or regeneration.

The machine’s contoured cab design and sliding door allow the cab to swing within the radius of its large, 7,630-pound counterweight.

“The PC138USLC-11 is the perfect machine for contractors on highway, bridge and other roadwork jobs,” says Kurt Moncini, senior product manager, Komatsu America. “It’s easy to transport, versatile and the tight tail swing fits easily within one lane of traffic.”

Walk right through a D6 with the VR tech Cat uses for machine design (VIDEO)

During a recent press event, Caterpillar showed off a virtual realty (VR) demonstrator that allowed editors to walk straight through a current production D6, viewing internal components along the way. (See video below.) If Cat offers this same experience at ConExpo, it will have a line of attendees snaking through the aisles waiting to get in.

Working with graphic card producer Nvidia and software provider ESI Group, Cat has merged its CAD drawings with their capabilities and is now “two to three years ahead of where we thought we were going to be” with its VR capabilities, says Galen Faidley, engineering project team leader with Cat’s Immersive Visualization department. “We’ve only had this system for a couple of months. Now that the broader world is paying attention to VR, we can take consumer technologies developed for gaming and apply them to basic product engineering.”
