PennDOT expands travel information for drivers

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has expanded the features on its travel information website, 511PA.com.

511PA is also available for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.

Motorists can now see any travel alerts on state roads along a specific route when they enter “start” and “end” points, and additional weather information is available for dozens of roadways across the state, PennDOT says.

During the winter, the tool also shows when each road was last plowed.

PennDOT says drivers can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, with color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, also provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 850 traffic cameras, PennDOT says.
