Pennsylvania State Police responded to the accident, but only told the news agency that the woman was taken to a nearby hospital with undisclosed injuries. Traffic was backed up at the scene of the accident while crews cleared debris from the scene. The accident occurred at approximately 10:33 a.m. and crew had the road re-opened at approximately 11 a.m.
The bridge replacement project, which began in May, has been the scene of several accidents. A crash was reported in the same construction area just after 8:30 a.m. the same day involving a car and landscape truck with a trailer. A witness told reporters that both drivers escaped serious injuries in that accident.
According to the news agency, the project is a joint venture called Walsh/Granite that is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project to replace many bridges in Northampton County that are deemed structurally deficient. This bridge is expected to be complete in late December.
