Chuck Kohler
Chuck Kohler has been named chief operating officer (COO) of the Asia/Australia-Pacific/Southern Africa operating company of Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global strategic consulting, engineering and program/construction management organization.
In his new role, Kohler will oversee nearly 5,000 employees who work on hundreds of transportation, power, mining, water/wastewater and community development projects throughout Asia, the Australia-Pacific region, and southern Africa. Kohler succeeds Stuart Glenn in this role.
Kohler, a 24-year veteran of Parsons Brinckerhoff, was most recently the firm’s Global Director of Projects. He joined the firm in 1987 as a bridge engineer in the Chicago office. Following that assignment he spent eight years in the firm’s Singapore and Hong Kong offices. In Singapore, he served as project engineer on the Singapore Underground Road system, project manager of the Tuas Bay Tunnel, and deputy director for the program management of the Singapore Deep Tunnel Sewerage System.
In Hong Kong, he was manager of the office’s civil engineering division and project engineer on the Western Harbor Crossing.
He returned to the firm’s corporate headquarters in New York in 2000, where he worked in corporate finance for three years before returning to project work as project manager on the first phase of the Upper Rouge Combined Sewer Overflow in Detroit, Mich. In 2005 he moved to the firm’s Godalming, U.K., office, where he served as director of operations for the Europe-Africa organization. He was named executive vice president in December 2007 and returned to the New York corporate headquarters, where he assumed responsibility for overseeing the firm’s major projects.
A licensed civil and structural engineer, Kohler has an M.B.A. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign.
