Everybody complains about the shortage of qualified technicians in the construction industry.

So let me ask you a question: How many of you do anything to recognize or reward the technicians you have?

For all the griping about the labor shortage, there are few fleet managers or construction companies that do the most important thing they need to do to keep good technicians and promote the career field. And that is to give public acknowledgement of their technicians’ skills and value to your organization.

You have one chance to correct this too-common oversight, and that is to nominate your best diesel technician for the Association of Equipment Management Professionals Technician of the Year Award.

Nominees must have a minimum of five years working as a diesel technician but do not need to be AEMP members to qualify. There are two categories, one for public fleets and one for private fleets. Deadline for submitting an application is September 15. Click here to fill out a nomination form and see the additional rules.

Winners will receive a $500 scholarship and a custom John Deere tool chest and be featured in an article in Equipment World magazine. The awards will be presented at AEMP’s Annual Meeting and Conference in Las Vegas, March 2017, just prior to ConExpo.
