New York welcome signThe New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has completed the $8 million replacement of the Interstate 81 northbound and southbound bridges over Route 80 in Tully.

“This project will strengthen a vital part of Central New York’s transportation network and will help ensure this remains a safe and dependable roadway for years to come,” Governor Andrew M. Cuomo says.“We will continue making smart investments in our infrastructure that will support economic growth and create a stronger New York for all.”

NYSDOT says the new bridges are wider than the old structures, with two 12-foot lanes, a 6-foot left shoulder and a 10-foot right shoulder. Construction involved pre-cast concrete panels and minor upgrades of sidewalks in each direction were made to Route 80. A temporary bridge also was built in the median to allow traffic to continue during construction.

Work that continues and to be completed by the end of November includes removal of the temporary bridge (substructure and median crossovers), minor shoulder reconstruction and site cleanup.

“This bridge replacement project restores a vital north-south link on the I-81 corridor, which supports commuter, recreational and commercial traffic,” says NYSDOT Commissioner Matthew J. Driscoll. “Gov. Cuomo’s commitment to improving New York State’s roads and bridges will enhance safety and encourage economic development in Central New York.”
