North Carolina Department of Transportation Director Nick Tennyson is hitting the college circuit this week, promoting careers in transportation to current students.

On August 22, Tennyson visited North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, speaking to students of a supply chain management class about logistics and intermodal freight movement opportunities, touting recent port capacity improvements and new investments in the rail network in the state.

“I hope that each of you will consider a career with the state when you graduate,” Tennyson said. “We need smart, highly-trained people like you to keep North Carolina at the forefront of economic growth.”

He also spoke with administrators at the university about partnering opportunities to encourage students to seek jobs at NCDOT. The university has supplied interns in the past.

Tennyson also visited North Carolina State University on August 23, where he sat in on a Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering class. He spoke of future transportation plans for the state and the challenges facing the industry.

“We need smart, highly-trained people like you to keep North Carolina at the forefront of economic growth,” he said. “And the transportation department will play a key role in that growth by continuing to improve the connections between communities and businesses, a key for keeping and adding jobs in our state.”

He also spoke with school administrators about future partnership opportunities with students.
