Miss. DOT using drones to keep an eye on infrastructure

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is using drones to keep an eye on infrastructure projects in the state, and to help keep drivers safe, LocalMemphis.com reports.

Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert explained the importance of drone technology on state roads and bridges, saying “Compared to traditional bridge inspection processes and safety implementations of using employees for that kind of bridge inspection, specifically those of the more-lengthy spans, this is much cheaper and more effective and efficient.”

Drones are also used for emergency response, such as severe storms that could impact the infrastructure.
