Mini excavator falls into trench, pins worker inside on Md. jobsite

A construction worker in Maryland’s Montgomery County was rescued from a trench Saturday after a mini excavator fell into the trench, trapping him.

According to a report from WJLA TV, the man was working inside of an L-shaped trench inside a commercial building when the machine toppled over. In order to free the man, Montgomery Country Fire and Rescue crews worked for more than three hours, extricating the machine and shoring the trench before pulling him tos afety.

Video of the rescue work was posted on Twitter by MCFRS public information officer Pete Piringer.

In the end, the man was pulled from the trench with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
