Komatsu PC35 excavators break ground at new site of Komatsu Mining in Milwaukee.Komatsu Mining broke ground on its $285 million, 2.5-million-square-foot headquarters and manufacturing campus in Milwaukee’s Harbor District. When announced in 2018, Komatsu said it expected the facility to employ nearly 1,000 people by 2030.
The 57-acre complex will include facilities for advanced technology, robotics, engineering and R&D labs; a large office complex, training facilities, a data solutions center and an experience center.

Pre-construction work on the former superfund site has been under way since the end of 2019 to prepare the site for redevelopment.
Project partners are Hunzinger Construction, EUA and GRAEF, and contractors Hunzinger, A.W. Oakes & Son and Cornerstone One are using Komatsu’s Smart Construction technologies to optimize processes and control construction planning, management, scheduling and costs in near real time, says Komatsu.

The company plans to occupy the new campus in 2022.
