Kentucky road worker killed after being struck by truck in multi-vehicle crash

Traffic in a work zoneA worker with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet was killed after he was struck by a truck while doing bridge maintenance.

According to the Bowling Green Daily News, Titus Morris, 34, was working on bridge maintenance at Bays Creek Bridge in Allen County on Dec. 22 when a pickup truck involved in a multi-vehicle crash struck him.

The pickup was sent into Morris after a bumper hitch trailer came loose from a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck and struck the pickup that ended up hitting Morris and another vehicle.

“They were really just doing routine bridge maintenance,” KYTC spokesman Wes Watt said. “Any time we’re doing any type of work, we have certain safety procedures for whatever work is being done.”

Morris had been working for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as a highway equipment operator for 15 years before he was killed in the accident. It marked the first KYTC work-related fatality since 2011.

The crash is being investigated by Kentucky State Police.
