June steel shipments up 3.5 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has reported that for the month of June 2011, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,639,108 net tons, a 3.5 percent increase from the 7,380,064 net tons shipped in the previous month, May 2011, and a 3.7 percent increase from the 7,367,203 net tons shipped in June 2010.

Shipments year-to-date in 2011 are 44,779,857 a 5.8 percent increase vs. 2010 shipments of 42,308,140 for six months. 2011 shipments through June would annualize at 90 million tons.
