IronPlanet has gained quite a bit of momentum in the last year with a few big deals and two new site launches. The online equipment marketplace continued its march forward today with the announcement of its third hire in the last two months.
HolmesThe company has named Jeff Holmes as vice president of its Government Solutions. The 20-year Army veteran and former Lt. Col. Holmes will lead the development of the company’s GovPlanet site and manage its relationships with the military as well a federal and municipal governments.
IronPlanet launched GovPlanet in November after being awarded a U.S. Defense Logistics Agency contract in July. Its first auctions have included surplus trucks, trailers, generators, wheel loaders, cranes, dozers and other equipment. In December it became the first place where the general public could purchase decommissioned Humvees.
Holmes served with the army for 20 years before retiring in 1992 and embarking on a second career that has given him extensive experience in both logistics and business dealings between the public and private sectors. IronPlanet CEO Greg Owens said Holmes, “can expertly navigate complex government relationships.”
Holmes comes to the company after most recently working for Pricewaterhouse Cooper’s PRTM Management Consulting in Retail and Consumer Sector Operations.
IronPlanet says in the first two months, GovPlanet online auctions have generated than $3.5 million in government proceeds from disposed surplus rolling stock—triple the results from the DoD’s previous contract.
As mentioned above, Holmes is the third hire for IronPlanet in the last two months after tapping new financial and marketing chiefs. In April the company completed its merger with Cat Auction Services, adding live, onsite auctions to its offering. And in June of last year, it launched allEquip, a buy-it-now auction format for used equipment.
