2017 Cummins ISX15The first truck maker to offer over-the-air (OTA) engine programming will also be the first to offer OTA programming for Cummins engines.
International has announced plans to begin offering OTA updates this fall on limited production release 2017 Cummins engines.
OTA programming allows drivers and fleet managers to update engine control modules to the latest manufacturer-approved calibrations without having to visit a dealer or other service facility.
“Many of our customers have mixed fleets, and thanks to this industry-leading innovation, customers will be able to program Cummins’ engines without having to leave their own facilities,” said Terry Kline, Navistar senior vice president and chief information officer, in a statement. “This open-architecture approach will provide drivers and fleets with an added measure of ease, convenience, efficiency and productivity.”
Using the company’s nine-pin LINK device, International allows drivers and fleet managers to initiate OTA engine programming through a mobile interface and the process is performed over a secure Wi-Fi connection.
Cummins and Navistar plan plan to expand the service to additional model years.
