Illinois TollwayThe Illinois Tollway recently approved $132.4 million in construction contracts, bringing the yearly total for construction and engineering projects approvals to $909 million.

The approvals are part of the Move Illinois Program, which began in 2012 and has approved roughly $4 billion in contracts to date. The Illinois Tollway says the program has “created or sustained” more than 32,000 jobs through September of this year.

This month’s approvals include $130.2 million for work on the eastern part of the I-90 Rebuilding and Widening Project.

Included in that total is a contract for $39.3 million for work between Illinois Route 53/I-290 and Arlington Heights Road, a contract for $32.1 million for work between Arlington Heights Road and Oakton Street and a contract for $58.7 million for work from Oakton Street to Mannheim Road.

“While this year’s construction on the eastern segment of I-90 is continuing in full swing, we need to begin to put contracts in place for 2016 work so we can maintain momentum on this critical project,” said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Greg Bedalov. “To date, more than $2.1 billion in contracts have been approved for work on I-90, providing opportunities for more than 520 unique businesses to work with the Tollway and help us deliver the new, state-of-the-art roadway to our customers.”

The fourth contract of this round of approvals is for $2.2 million to construct a storage building at the Downers Grove (M-14) maintenance facility on the Veterans Memorial Tollway.
