“I’ve a lot of work to do here (at ITD) which is my only reservation about this, but it appears to be a great opportunity and a great benefit to the department, not to mention professionally for myself,” Sablan says.

According to AASHTO, potential activities for the fellowship position include:

  • Supporting the development, update, and/or implementation of AASHTO’s guides, manuals and technical specifications.
  • Working with one or more of the AASHTO Technical Services Programs, such as AASHTOWare, the National Transportation Product Evaluation Program, the AASHTO Innovation Initiative, the Operations Technical Service Program and the Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council among others.
  • Contributing to the development of national policy in transportation safety, operations, project delivery, environment, planning, public transportation, project finance and freight transportation.
  • Participating and assisting in organizing national meetings and conferences by providing assistance to AASHTO committee members.
  • Responding to technical inquiries on AASHTO publications and policies.
