ThomasKentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has named Greg Thomas as the new secretary of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Thomas had been serving as acting secretary for the past month following the resignation of Mike Hancock from the position.
“Greg possesses the leadership and management qualifications that are imperative for the Transportation Cabinet in these tough budgetary times,” Bevin says. “His expertise in engineering and budget management, coupled with his ability to provide strategic direction, make him the perfect fit for this critical position within the administration.”
Thomas was named deputy secretary in February. Prior to that he served as vice president of electric distribution for Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities in Louisville. He was responsible for leading and directing all statewide electric distribution operations for the utility.
“I am truly honored to serve Kentucky as Secretary of the Transportation Cabinet,” Thomas says. “As we move forward, we will continue our commitment to providing a safe and reliable transportation network for Kentucky. I want to sincerely thank Governor Bevin for the opportunity to serve the Cabinet, our talented employees and the citizens of the Commonwealth.”
He says he plans to “implement cost-saving measures that will restore the Road Fund cash balance back to normal operating levels.”
