Floodwaters in Calif. wash out part of Alhambra Valley Road

Updated Jan 17, 2017

Flooding in California opened up a massive sinkhole causing part of Alhambra Valley Road near Pinole and Richmond, to collapse on Wednesday, NBC Bay Area reports. The YouTube video below shows the rushing floodwaters and the large gap in the road they created.

“The Pinole Creek, it runs right through there,” Pinole resident Jeremy Gomez told the news agency. “There’s probably a 6- to 8-foot drainage pipe under there. Obviously, it went out. It’s crazy, real deep. I don’t know how they’re going to fix it.”

The Contra Costa County Department of Public Works officials told the news outlet that the road would be closed indefinitely.
