The competition, sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), AAA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, recognizes transportation projects in three main categories: “Ahead of Schedule,” “Under Budget” and “Best Use of Innovation.” The projects were also ranked by size: small category (projects that cost less than $25 million), medium category (projects costing between $25-$200 million) and large category (projects that cost more than $200 million).
Seven transportation projects were nominated.

The winners in the mid American region were announced last month, and winners in the western region were announced earlier this month.
The 10 projects with the highest overall scores will compete for the Grand Prize and People’s Choice Award. A panel of transportation experts will choose the Grand Prize winner, while the People’s Choice Award will go to the transportation project that receives the most online votes from the public.
Online voting begins September 4. Grand Prize and People’s Choice Award winners will be announced at the AASHTO Annual Meeting in Denver in October.
