Esri recognizes South Dakota DOT for GIS technology

Screen Shot 2016-08-02 at 4.16.53 PMThe South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) was recently honored with a Special Achievement in Geographic Information System (GIS) Award from GIS software developer Esri during the company’s annual User Conference.

SDDOT was recognized for its “innovative application of technology, data collection, geospatial information visualization and thoughtful leadership through GIS” on its 700-page Highway Needs and Project Analysis Report.

“A Special Achievement in GIS Award recognizes best practices for organizations implementing technology to change the world,” says Esri founder and president Jack Dangermond. “Highlighting good work benefits the entire GIS community and that’s very valuable.”

“Our GIS team in the office of Transportation Inventory Management has continually identified ways improve the products they deliver to both internal and external customers throughout the state and nation,” says Planning and Engineering division director Mike Behm.  “This award is an honor for SDDOT and is another example of their outstanding use of innovation and exceptional customer service.”
