John Deere updates 3 G Series excavators with new hood design, T4F engine, requested features

Using an engine refresh as a chance to add a few customer-requested features, John Deere has introduced model updates to three of its G Series excavators.

The new 130G, 160G LC and 180G LC are powered by a Tier 4 Final Deere PowerTech PVS 4.5-liter engine producing 98, 121 and 128 horsepower for each respective model. Full specs are below.

With this engine refresh comes a new hood design offering easier engine access and high visibility. And, as in other G Series models, DPF cleaning occurs automatically with a run-time of 15,000 hours before ash removal is necessary.

Each of the new machines feature Deere’s Powerwise III hydraulic management system. Powerwise features three work modes including: High-Productivity, for more power and faster hydraulic response; Power, for a mix of power speed and fuel economy; and Economy, which reduces top speed and saves fuel.

Further updates include moving the ninepin diagnostic connector into the cab for easier access as well as the addition of a rear view camera as standard equipment. A new option for the machines is a programmable thumb attachment mode, allowing operators to program oil flow via the monitor.

Another new option is a light package which includes a hood light that illuminates the engine compartment.

Deere bills the 130G as a suitable upgrade for those looking to move up from a backhoe and as a “right-size,” “niche” machine capable of digging footings, loading trucks installing utilities and more. For those looking for higher dig forces and lift capacities in a still-easy-to-transport package, Deere recommends the 160G and 180G models.
