Will contractors comply with new voluntary ANSI standards for aerial lifts?

When attending aerial lift industry conferences, Rick Smith regularly stops attendees to ask if they’re ready for the new ANSI standards for aerial work platforms.

“I’m shocked at the number of folks who have heard nothing about it,” says Smith, JLG senior director of global product training.

Despite that lack of knowledge, new standards by the American National Standards Institute that impact all who manufacture, sell, rent, repair, operate or ride an aerial work platform – now called Mobile Elevating Work Platforms, or MEWPs – are set to go into effect March 1.

Morooka unveils its largest crawler carrier with 125-foot boom

Morooka used the recent ICUEE show to bring out its largest crawler carrier, the MST4500VDL, to demonstrate the company’s capabilities.

The 4500 was first built for Custom Truck One Source as a custom machine, and the company decided to display it at ICUEE to see if there was wider interest in the utility market for the large tracked carrier.

VIDEO: Backhoe is Cat’s first Smart Attachment for new D3 Series skid steers, CTLs

On its new D3 Series of skid steers and compact track loaders, Caterpillar is launching its Smart Attachment platform.

Cat says the new Smart Attachments are an industry first, and with advanced machine technology, the new D3 Series skid steers and CTLs automatically recognize these smart work tools and tailor machine controls and operator information to match the attachment and the task.

Chevy’s Carhartt edition Silverado is back—for real this time—on the 2021 2500HD (VIDEO)

Three years ago Chevrolet unveiled a concept truck designed with Carhartt that quickly got the attention of Chevy fans and trades professionals alike.

And while the original concept truck’s seats and tonneau cover featuring Carhartt’s iconic “duck brown” fabric didn’t make the cut, at this year’s SEMA show, Chevrolet has unveiled the official 2021 production model of the Silverado 2500HD Carhartt Special Edition.

But more recently we got a full look and proper demo of this machine at Caterpillar’s BCP headquarters in Clayton, North Carolina. Below we’ll run through the specs for you, but one thing that stood out to us that didn’t get a lot of emphasis in the press release was what Cat calls “stick steer” by which they mean joystick steering.

No big deal you say? Already have that on skid steers? Yes, but when you put the travel functions on the left hand joystick of an excavator rather than the floor pedals and levers it turns out you can do a whole lot more with this than any other design. Here’s why.
