Cummins unveils its first crate engine, the R2.8 Turbo Diesel
Admit it. You’ve always wanted a diesel. You dreamed of what you could do with that torque.
Now you can have one and retrofit it into an older truck or Jeep and not have to pay a fortune for a new model.
At SEMA Wednesday, Cummins unveiled its first crate engine, the R2.8 Turbo Diesel. The four-cylinder oil burner puts out 161 horsepower and 267 lb.-ft. of torque with a high pressure common rail fuel system, cooled EGR/DOC for emissions (no SCR, you’ll be pleased to note), and a Holset waste-gated turbocharger.

Cat’s new universal coupler quickly attaches skid-steer tools to mini excavators
Caterpillar has introduced a new universal coupler designed for use with 4-ton, 5-ton and 8-ton mini excavators.
The new Cat Mini Hydraulic Excavator Universal Coupler allows for skid-steer attachments to be used and interchanged quickly on these excavators.

Dealers preview Kubota’s new compact excavators, RTV, tractors
Dealers got a hands-on preview of Kubota’s two new compact excavators, available in early 2018, as well as the company’s fastest gas-powered RTV yet and seven new tractors in the M Series lineup.
About 1,100 dealers attending Kubota’s annual meeting October 21-25 in Phoenix, Arizona, saw the KX033-4 with extendable dipper arm along with the U27-4, which will replace the U25S.

Liebherr intros 422-hp PR 766 dozer
North America will be an interesting market for Liebherr’s new PR 766, according to Martin Langle, managing director of sales, Liebherr-Werk Telfs.
“This size of machine is used there for a variety of markets, including in earthmoving, quarries and also in stockpiling operations,” he said in comments made last week during an international trade press event in Leoben, Austria.
The 101,835-to-119,490-pound operating weight PR 766 succeeds the previous 416-horsepower PR 764 and is the newest machine in the company’s Generation 6 dozers, which debuted in 2013. Powered by a 422-horsepower, 8-cylinder Liebherr engine, the machine meets emissions compliance standards in two technological steps, according to the company.

Eterra goes big with new ‘monster’ Typhoon 74 brush mower
Eterra has added a 74-inch model to its Typhoon series of mowers, which the company calls “a monster of a brush cutter.”
The Typhoon 74 is designed for heavy-duty skid steers and compact track loaders with at least 2,500 pounds of lifting power. The attachment requires 32 to 50 gallons per minute of hydraulic flow at up to 5,000 pounds per square inch of pressure. It can handle material up to 12 inches with the front gate removed and up to 4 inches with the gate closed. The company says it can “grind down large logs and stumps with slow and deliberate operation.”
