Equipment Roundup: Big Cat D6T update; Dynapac CC950D small project roller; John Deere & Liebherr partner on engine development and more

Cat unveils D6T dozer with fully auto transmission, big fuel savings, standard GRADE tech

Cat has updated its D6T bulldozer with a new transmission that the company says makes the machine not only easier to operate but much more fuel efficient.

The new machine is powered by a Tier 4 Final Cat C9.3 ACERT delivering 215 horsepower (253 gross). The engine is now paired with a fully automatic, four-speed, power-shift transmission with an integral lock-up clutch. Cat says the new transmission is capable of reducing fuel use by up to 20 percent in heavy work and up to 30 percent in light work and finish grading applications.

Operation with this new automatic transmission is as simple as setting the ground speed. From there the transmission chooses the gear and engine speed that are most efficient for current operating conditions.

Dynapac launches CC950D small project tandem asphalt roller

Dynapac has introduced a small project tandem asphalt roller with its CC950D, designed for bicycle paths, narrow roads, small parking lots and other hard-to-reach asphalt compaction applications.

The CC950D offers 38-inch-wide drums with a “high clearance” designed to allow it to work near curbs, the company reports. The front drum vibrates at 4,200 vpm, or 70 Hz, while the rear drum is static.

Dynapac added shock absorbers on the rear drum to lesson the impact on the operator, and designed “ergonomically positioned” steps to give the operator more comfortable access. It also features standard foldable rollover protection system (ROPS) framing for low-clearance transport.

John Deere, Liebherr partner to speed up the engine development process

John Deere and Liebherr have announced a new agreement centering on engine development collaboration.

The move represents the expansion of a well-established relationship between the two companies in engine manufacturing. John Deere Power Systems and Liebherr’s Switzerland-based Machines Bulle operation already work together to produce engines for Deere and Liebherr machines and those for heavy equipment from other companies.

Under the new deal, the two companies have agreed to collaborate on an evaluation of “engine technologies, designs and development processes that may be useful for developing and producing future power needs of each company.”
