With up to 90 degrees of articulation, the Cat 553 wheel feller bunchers maneuver up and down hills and through dense timber. The machine has a 225-gross-horsepower engine and weighs 27,775 pounds. The engine house is constructed of heavy plate and has locking service panels. An optional bolt-on rear canopy is available. Its power train includes a two-speed mechanical gearbox and variable hydrostatic drive. The load-sensing hydraulics system powers lift, tilt, steering and attachment arms. The front window on the cab has a reverse slope and is triple-laminated Lexan. Joystick steering is available as an option.
