Construction adds 28,000 jobs in August

The construction industry added its third largest monthly jobs total of the year in August with a gain of 28,000 jobs.

The new jobs bring total U.S. construction employment to 6.918 million Americans, according to preliminary data from the Labor Department.

The August jobs report also brought a revision to the July jobs total. July employment was revised downward from the previously reported 6.899 million jobs to 6.890 million. The change brings what was a month-to-month gain of 6,000 jobs in July down to a loss of 3,000.

Construction’s unemployment rate fell in August from 4.9 percent to 4.7 percent.

The U.S. economy added 156,000 jobs in August while the unemployment rate rose slightly from 4.3 percent to 4.4 percent.
