Construction adds 27,000 jobs in March

Construction workers on break legs feetFor 12 months now, the U.S. construction industry has not posted a loss in jobs.

The industry added 27,000 jobs in the most recent tally for March, bringing the total number of Americans employed in construction to 6.672 million, according to preliminary data from the Labor Department.

The latest data also revised February’s total, increasing it from 6.631 million to 6.635 million, bolstering that month’s job gains from the previously reported 19,000 to 20,000.

Construction unemployment held steady at 8.7 percent.

The U.S. economy added 215,000 jobs for the month, with unemployment holding steady at 5 percent.
