Cat wheel loaderCaterpillar announced this week that it has opened two new factories in China. One of the new facilities is a proving ground and the other is a wheel loader manufacturing facility.

It’s an expansion of Cat’s presence in China and the Asia Pacific Proving Ground facility will serve as a hub for validation and product development services for all Cat machinery made in the region. Meanwhile, the large wheel loader manufacturing facility, located in Tongzhou, Jiangsu Province, will serve Cat’s quarry and mining applications in China and growth markets.

Cat says the Tongzhou wheel loader plant is “strategically located” at the mouth of the Yangtze River to the East Sea, and provides “a logistics advantage in shipping machines from the Asia Pacific region and from inland China to the APPG for testing, and ultimately, the shipping of complete machines to marketplaces in China and around the world.”

Cat’s 986 large wheel loader is produced at the new large wheel loader facility and is the first Cat machine designed, validated and built in China specifically for China and global markets.

Cat now employs 15,000 people across China and the new facilities bring Caterpiallar’s number of operating Chinese manufacturing facilities to 23 with four more under construction. That’s in addition to four R&D centers and three logistics and parts centers.
