Bridge worker falls to his death in North Carolina

Hard Hat Fallen In DirtConstruction worker Anthony Ramos died after falling 30 feet from a bridge west of Asheboro, North Carolina, March 20, The Courier-Tribune reports.

The contractor Ramos worked for, Wright Brothers Construction, reports that the accident occurred at 11:30 a.m. while Ramos was working on the bridge, which is part of a new U.S. 64 Bypass project.

Peggy Beach, communications officer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) told the news agency Wright Brothers indicated Ramos was disassembling a screed when the screed fell off its rail, causing him to fall.

Emergency responders first reported that Ramos had suffered head trauma, but was conscious and semi-alert. However, he was pronounced dead after reaching Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

A press release announced, â€śBecause of the work-related fatality on the Asheboro Bypass Project on Monday, we have postponed the nighttime closures on U.S. 73/U.S. 220 until further notice.”

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
