Fast forward four decades , and it appears we just experienced the Summer of Electric drive vehicles, or EVs, in 2017. No less than GM, Volvo, Daimler, Honda, and even Dyson – yes, the vacuum cleaner people – have announced a coming EV in the last few months.
Lest you think these are all flyweight vehicles, Cummins in collaboration with Rousch has developed a prototype Class 7 hybrid electric “urban hauler tractor,” the Aeos. Cummins also recently bought Brammo, a company that makes electric storage technology for mobile applications. And, snatching the most headlines of all, Tesla unveiled its own electric drive semi-truck.
In three years’ time, we’ve gone from a handful of Teslas and Nissan Leafs to every major manufacturer committing to ambitious EV programs. And there are dozens of smaller companies and start-ups fighting for a piece of the market.

Carter Machinery now the authorized GOMACO distributor for Virginia
Carter Machinery Company, Inc., is now the authorized GOMACO distributor for the state of Virginia.
The multi-branch dealership will provide sales and service for GOMACO’s full line of concrete construction products.
Carter Machinery and GOMACO share the same corporate values, according to Kent Godbersen, vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for GOMACO Corporation.
“They continually invest in their infrastructure and technology, as well as their employees,” Godberson says, noting the dealership’s long history in Virginia of providing service and support to customers.

Kobelco adds Correlli and Frank Martin Sons to dealer network
Kobelco Construction Machinery USA has added Correlli, out of Dundalk, Maryland, and Frank Martin Sons, located in Fort Kent Mills, Maine, to its dealer network.
Both dealerships will provide professional sales, rentals, parts and service support for Kobelco excavators. Correlli, dedicated to serving the landscaping, commercial property and residential construction industries, will offer compact Kobelco excavators weighing up to 9 metric tons.

National Equipment Dealers buys three independent dealerships, moves into new HQ in S.C.
National Equipment Dealers (NED) has acquired Four Seasons Equipment, May Heavy Equipment and Earthmovers Equipment, as well as some assets of International Iron.
NED calls this a “truly exceptional opportunity” to expand in the nation’s three fastest-growing economic areas:
- Houston and Dallas, Texas
- Orlando, Florida
- Raleigh, Lexington, Charlotte, Columbia, Greenville-Spartanburg and Charleston in the Carolinas.
The corporate office of the new entity will be based out of May Heavy Equipment’s facilities, which were recently built in Lexington, North Carolina, a company official tells Equipment World.

Cooper Equipment Rentals buys Modern Rentals
Cooper Equipment Rentals, based in Toronto, Canada, has acquired Modern Industrial Rentals, serving Southern Alberta.
Modern Rentals started in 1978, serving industrial and construction equipment rental clients from branches in Calgary and Medicine Hat, Alberta.
“Modern Rental’s experienced team of rental professionals, quality equipment fleet and strategically located branch facilities” gives Cooper Equipment an opportunity to strengthen its business in Western Canada, says Doug Dougherty, Cooper Equipment president.
