Benefits of Advanced Transportation Solutions at TS Canada 15th Annual Conference and General Meeting

As traffic congestion climbs and government spending declines, transportation agencies and transit departments at all levels are challenged to meet the growing needs of drivers in an efficient and cost-effective way.

To effectively manage the transportation infrastructure, government agencies are turning to intelligent transportation technology, as part of an integrated approach to managing urban resources. To meet the increasing strain of population growth, advanced transportation solutions must be integrated with state-of-the-art hardware, software, and services to create a true SmartCity.

WHAT: Telvent smart mobility experts will present at the ITS Canada 15th Annual Conference and General Meeting from June 10-13, 2012.

Tip Franklin, director of business development, will present on Integrated Corridor Management (ICM), a system which utilizes advanced traveler information, multi-agency communication, and real-time data collection and dissemination. The solution allows transportation agencies to accurately analyze and manage traffic, improve travel times, alert the public to traffic conditions and promote other transportation mode options.

Jeremy Duensing, transportation product manager at Telvent DTN, will present on the integration of real-time weather data with Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for a better approach to ITS. Integrating current and forecasted weather data into ITS applications can improve decision-making and be used to create an alerting system to reduce congestion and improve safety.

Cary Vick, product manager for Telvent, will present on the concept of “true” Adaptive Traffic Control Systems (ATCS), which is a term often broadly used to describe systems that may provide measureable benefits over conventional fixed-time systems, but are not actually true adaptive control systems. This presentation examines what makes a “true” ATCS and discusses how it is supported by the products of several market leading vendors.
