ARTBA calls for nominations for 2008 Globe awards

The Transportation Development Foundation of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association is accepting nominations for the 2008 Globe Awards, a competition honoring transportation construction industry excellence in environmental protection and mitigation.

Awarded annually since 1998, the program recognizes private sector firms and public sector transportation agencies that excel in protecting and enhancing the natural environment in the planning, design and construction of transportation infrastructure projects in the United States. The program also honors transportation construction-related product manufacturers and material suppliers using environmental processes.

The competition is structured into two categories:

Project Awards. Nominations may be made for projects in the following categories – highways, local or secondary roads, bridges, public transit, airports, railroads and waterways and ports.

Process Awards: Nominations will be accepted to recognize companies that have exhibited environmentally responsible processes related to transportation construction.

To be eligible, surface transportation projects nominated must have been completed in the two-year period prior to the award deadline, and organizations nominated must have exhibited creativity and innovation in environmentally responsible manufacturing, production, resource extraction or other processes within two years prior to the award deadline.

Applications must be received by March 28, 2008. For more information or to obtain an application, call (202) 289-4434.
