The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) has created a Wiki for information about the concrete pavement association—WikiPave.

The association announced the launch at World of Concrete in Las Vegas. â€śWikiPave is the largest-scale technology transfer, knowledge transfer, and educational initiative in the 51-year history of the American Concrete Pavement Association,” said ACPA President & CEO Gerald F. Voigt, P.E.

While the information on WikiPave is freely available, ACPA said, all editing rights and content development is limited to its members and affiliates. Development of the site has been an 18-month process, with developing the platform and populating it with new information, as well as content from the association’s web site, particularly its Concrete Pavement Resource Center.

“This is a transformative change,” Voigt added. “I characterize it as a sea change in our way of doing the business of technology transfer.”

“What we love most is the opportunity to engage our members in developing and editing content. Members of associations today want to engage for the value and sense of belonging to a community, but they want to do it on their own terms. We see WikiPave as a great adaptation to meet this need.”

The ACPA also announced that it has added two web-based training modules to its Concrete Pavement Construction Training site. The courses are:

Best Practices for Constructing Smooth Concrete Pavements

This course covers topics from defining roughness to why smooth pavements are important, as well as smoothness measurement, quality control methods, and the “10 commandments” of smooth pavement. The course lasts 4.5 hours.

Best Practices for Handling Aggregates for Concrete Paving

This 3.5-hour course focuses on the basics of aggregates, acceptance criteria, tips and techniques for configuring a concrete plant site, and stockpile handling and management.

The Federal Highway Administration sponsored the ACPA-developed courses. They are free to anyone involved in highway and heavy construction. Upon registering, participants must enter a coupon code—pavement1.
