Photo: Wayne GraysonDuring a March media briefing prior to my test drive of the new trucks, Ram Truck brand chief Jim Morrison said the truck’s designers had given the revamped 2019 1500 lineup “one of the best interiors in all of the segments,” noting that he was including luxury cars in his assessment. “I’ll challenge you to compare it to anything that’s out there.”
It didn’t take long for somebody to take Morrision up on his offer.
After comparing 40 interiors across all automotive segments that are all-new or feature major improvements, WardsAuto has released its 2018 list of the 10 Best Interiors. The 2019 Ram 1500 is the only pickup to make the list.

“Starting with the eye-catching 12-in. touchscreen that dominates the instrument panel, the 2019 Ram 1500 shows the world what is possible inside a full-size pickup truck,” says Ward’s Drew Winter. “In addition to the ultra-sophisticated electronics, the materials and design details in the Limited and Laramie Longhorn editions would be at home in a luxury car costing six figures. And, on top of that are dozens of surprise and delight features that turn the Ram 1500 into a lifestyle vehicle for many different — and fun — lifestyles.”
After spending a day in one of these trucks, I can’t say I disagree with Ward’s assessment. The 2019 Ram 1500 interior is flat out impressive. The Limited and Laramie Longhorn editions offer a cab whose luxury is simply a step above that of other truck makers. And they don’t just look nice, they feel nice too. In my first drive review of the truck I said the new seats have “the feel of leather recliners,” while the 45 inches of legroom should put an end to any family’s fights over who gets to ride shotgun. Plus, Ram says this is the quietest truck it’s ever produced.
Beyond the comfort, the new truck can also be outfitted with a cool and useful 12-inch touch display (as noted above) and the amount of storage made available by the truck’s cavernous center console, true flat rear floor board, in-floor storage containers and rear seat storage containers means you might not have to use the bed of the truck much at all.
