Yokohama Tire Corporation Wins Heavy Duty Trucking™s Nifty Fifty Award for its 103ZR Commercial Truck Tire

FULLERTON, CA (Jan. 19, 2009) Yokohama Tire Corporation™s 103ZR commercial tire has earned one of Heavy Duty Trucking™s 2008 Nifty Fifty awards, which are chosen by its editors as the best new product introductions during the last year. The 50 winners were selected from hundreds of new product articles appearing in the magazine and judged on their usefulness to the truck operator in terms of innovation, serviceability and performance. According to the editors, the 103ZR, part of Yokohama™s Zenvironment line, was picked for being a longer lasting, fuel-efficient tire. Yokohama won in 2007 for its 703ZL.

Back-to-back Nifty Fifty awards from Heavy Duty Trucking is truly an honor, said John Cooney, Yokohama™s director of commercial sales. The 103ZR is an outstanding tire and we are very proud to be receiving recognition from the editors once again.

Cooney said the 103ZR offers a compound, tread design and casing construction that delivers longer treadwear and low rolling resistance. The casing innovations actually predict changes in tire shape that occur in early stages of wear. The result is increased durability due to stabilized performance over the wear of the tire.Âť

Other special features of the 103ZR include rock-ejector platforms that keep stones and debris out of the grooves to enhance durability; superior fuel economy due to stronger and more pliable rubber that reduces heat generation and provides low rolling resistance; and a wide tread, partnered with a 23/32Âť tread depth that promotes long, even wear. The 103ZR is available in seven sizes.
