A worker in Winston-Salem was killed last week in an accident involving a boom lift.

According to a report from the Winston-Salem Journal, 65-year-old Dennis Michael Laney was found unresponsive atop elevated train tracks running through his jobsite. Police tell the paper the cherry picker was sitting nearby.

Laney and co-workers with Bonitz Contracting were performing work inside the Wake Forest Innovation Quarter for Whiting-Turner, the paper reports.

Crews are working on a building called Plant 60 in preparation of making the building part of the future Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center medical school.

Police inspected the cherry picker and the scene, telling the paper Laney’s death was “an isolated incident.” The North Carolina Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Division is investigating the incident as well.
